Thalein is an ancient Greek word meaning ‘to bloom’ or ‘to flourish’. Thalein is my vehicle for continuous personal growth, through which I’m producing content (my blog) and sharing knowledge and skills through advisory work.
Tim de Rooij works at Tamr, an enterprise data mastering company. Tamr uses machine learning to help large organizations combine, organize, and clean their data so it can be used to unlock (business) value.
Prior to Tamr, Tim was doing management consulting – mainly M&A and Corporate Venturing Strategy – at Deloitte and later as an independent consultant. Prior to that, he worked at investment banking boutique Keijser Capital, where he advised medium-sized companies on debt and equity financing.
In parallel to this work, Tim is active as an advisor to startups. He enjoys financial modeling and thinking about business strategy. He believes the narrative is very important: if the story isn’t there, it is hard to sell your vision.
Startups he has worked with include Pacmed, SingularityU Benelux, Nx’change, and he is currently on the advisory board of RentItems.
Tim served as a young member on the Amsterdam Economic Board and worked with social enterprise WOO in The Netherlands and Vietnam.
Tim holds a Master of Science in Financial Management from Nyenrode Business University (Breukelen, The Netherlands) and a Master of Laws in Finance and Law from the Duisenberg School of Finance (Amsterdam, The Netherlands).
His interests are playing guitar, skateboarding (on a longboard cruiser these days), storytelling, and finance & investments.
